salmon burgers

Like I promised I did have a burger night and made the delicious salmon burgers featured on New York Times! I highly recommend those of you who enjoy eating burgers without the beef patty to try this recipe out. It's actually pretty easy to make, doesn't take too much time and is delicious. Additionally because I thought the burgers itself may not be enough and making french fries wasn't all that healthy in my mind so I made baked potato strings!!

Basically you mix the salmon, shallots, sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger, salt and pepper together. Then you shape them into paddies put them in the refrigerator for an hour.

Then after an hour you pan fry them until they are well done. Not too difficult right?

Toast your burger buns and then add some veggies on the bottom place the salmon paddy on top and then add your favorite dressing. I would recommend honey mustard or tar tar sauce!

This dish is pretty simple, grate potatoes mix it in olive oil and truffle salt and place it in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes, if you want it to be crunchier than bake for about 45 minutes. (I also added some mushrooms and cheese to top it off, but this is optional)

magical flowers!

For my birthday this year my friend gave me this awesome magical scented flower, it adds some character to my room and I thought it was pretty nifty so waned to share with everyone! Not sure where you can find these besides the little store that carries them here in Taipei at the department stores but I suppose the idea is you could use any paper based cut outs/flower cut outs and place it into those oil scented aroma therapy kits and viola!

Team Spirit!

Ok, I cheated and used a cupcake mix for this but I have a good excuse because I didn't have time or the ingredients in the kitchen for me to make cupcakes from scratch! Regardless, point of the cupcakes is to show some school spirit...GO TIGERS! Made them for my brothers swim team since they were having a swim meet last weekend. Perhaps the cupcakes did some good because they came in first! :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

First and foremost, I haven't been able to create any dishes in the kitchen since Halloween. Yes, I know what happened to baking and cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas? Well, I didn't get the opportunity to do any of that last year due to other obligations, time flies we are already into our second week of 2010! Yikes! Hope everyone is off to a great start this year...

A few things on my plate that I wanted to share in my first post for this year...

1. FOOD INC.
I finally after an entire year was able to get myself a copy of FOOD INC, its absolutely a must see in my opinion. If you have no clue what I am referring to watch the trailer below, personally the documentary really did a fantastic job illustrating where the food on our plates comes from.

2. BURGER WITHOUT THE BEEF
Just came across an article on The New York Times on their recipe for health page, I've always wondered how you make a proper vegetarian/non-beef burgers and now I have come across a solution!! Thanks to Martha Rose Shulman who provided four different variations of burgers without the beef. Sometime this month, hopefully, if I can find time I am going to have a no beef burger party and test out these recipes!

That's all for now, hope everyone is following their new years resolution thus far for this year.
