Marketing Cereal to Kids

Since marketing is such a powerful tool I wish they would be more honest when they do advertisements and such. Came across this article on TIME magazine and it made me very upset to see the rankings of how awfully unhealthy these cereals are for kids (even adults I should say). Guilty, I grew up eating every single one of them on the list but now have graduated and moved on to products like Kashi, whole grain, granolas etc....we should do the same for kids shouldn't we?

Top 10 Sugary Brands Chasing Kids
1. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
2. Honey Nut Cheerios
3. Lucky Charms
4. Lucky Charms
5. Trix
6. Frosted Flakes
7. Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles
8. Reese's Puff
9. Corn Puffs
10. Froot Loops

Bottle Bank Arcade Machines

Perhaps innovation and creativity together can bring new changes to the world we live in. We know its right to recycle and be less wasteful but sometimes its hard to make that extra effort. The Fun Theory has come up with "fun" ways to inspire people like you and me to take that extra step and make these changes.

This is what the Bottle Bank Arcade Machines idea came about...
"Many of us return our plastic bottles and cans. Noticeably fewer recycle their glass. Maybe that's because we don't get any money in return, as we do for cans and plastic. Can we change this attitude by making recycling glass fun to do? So you are not just rewarded with a good conscience, you also get a smile. See the results here."

Far Foods: James Reynolds

Would this help educate consumers about where their produce originates from? Clever design idea!

The Concept is as follows:
Far Foods is an alternative packaging concept for supermarket produce, highlighting the distances that some foods travel from and the resultant carbon dioxide released during the journey. The receipt features a boarding card style tear-off strip. By James Reynolds.

adorable quote

Antonia Demas is the founder of www.foodstudies.org where she has been working with public school systems to educate children about nutrition. I was doing some reading for my class on "Plant Based Nutrition" and came across this really adorable quote that a student once said about her classes...

"I really loved your tofu, it made me get hooked on it. It made my cheeks tingle. The only thing I think about is tofu! When I'm bored, I think of tofu"

Wouldn't it be amazing to have kids make comments about real produce like this instead of thinking of junk food when they are bored??!
